Emergency “R” Bag

I was pretty shaken up (literally!) when we had our last earthquake here in the Bay Area. It prompted me to check all of my emergency “R” bags (I call them “R” bags because they have my trademarked initial on them) and I found out that many of the light sticks, food, water, towelettes and batteries had all expired by several years. Whoops!

So, my first recommendation is if you don’t have an emergency supply bag, it’s time to put one together. And, if you already have one, make sure to keep the contents up-to-date.

For natural disasters like a hurricane, tornado or earthquake, I’ll give you a short list of what you’ll need in your emergency “R” bag. If you need something more deluxe, check out Earth Shakes for a more extensive bag filled with food, water and thermal blankets.

My emergency “R” bag holds the following essentials:

1.    Travel-size tissues which can act as toilet paper, too

2.    Moist towelettes

3.    Small first aid kit that includes Band-Aids, antibiotic ointment and alcohol prep pads

4.    Mini LED flashlight keyring

5.    Non-electric can opener

6.    Plastic forks, spoons and knives

7.    Non-perishable and canned food

8.    1-2 light sticks

9.    Waterless skin cleanser

10.     Toothbrush and toothpaste

11.    Playing cards

12.    Trash bags

13.    Scissors

14.    Swiss army knife

You can keep multiple emergency “R” bags in your vehicle, bathroom, closet, or garage so they’re ready-to-go when you are.
