Glacier Glasses

As I was putting my adventure trip packing list together for my upcoming trip to Alaska, I realized I couldn’t find my athletic sunglasses. Ai yi yi! So, since I needed a new pair, I started to do some research on sunglasses to frame my petite face.

Size matters.

It’s important to know the shape of your face to figure out what the shape of your sunglasses should be. Don’t let the sunglasses extend too far off from your face. The frame should line up with the sides of your face.

Get the right lens.

For the glacier trekking I’m planning on doing, I was looking for sunglasses that have 100% protection from UVA. I learned that the type of lens category is important for dealing with the brightness of the ice or snow when purchasing sunglasses. Category 4 is what you want.

The perfect pair.

After trying on as many sunglasses as I could for that wrap-around-the-face feel with UV protection and no glare, I found out that Julbo  makes the best sunglasses for snow activities (aka glacier trekking). The pair I purchased are called Julbo MonteRosa Spectrum Sunglasses for Women. First of all, the stylish name Monte Rosa (Robin Rosa Laub!) is fun and fashionable and they’re lightweight, too! These sunnies are a Category 4 rating and can be found at REI and on Amazon. I won’t lie, these glasses are pricey at around $200. But at least the ice crystals won’t get into my eyes!
