Scarves, Tassels and Coats

Fall is officially here, which means it’s time for some fabulous new fashion! I love all scarves, tassels and coats – so here are some of my fun and fashionable styling tips just in time for the season.

What I love to wear virtually all year long are scarves. They say this is the season of the scarf, but in my opinion, a scarf can be chicly worn anytime, anywhere and anyhow. I recently discovered a new way of wearing scarves by layering two scarves together. Here are two of my favorite ways of doing this:

Super Chic

  1. Take a long checkered or plaid merino wool scarf and put it on like a shawl.
  2. Take another shorter solid color soft wool scarf with tassels and knot it around your neck.
  3. Then, cross the two sides of the scarf behind your back.
  4. Bring it around to the front with the tassels laying right around your shoulders.

It’s such a cool look and you can wear this over a jean jacket and leggings, or even over a solid colored knit dress. This can dress up a casual outfit in minutes!

Fashionable & Functional

  1. Take two medium length solid colored merino wool scarves with tassels. I use a black and ivory scarf.
  2. Put both scarves together with one scarf longer than the other.
  3. Make a loop with both scarves.
  4. Put the loop over your head and bring both scarves through to close the loop. You’ll have a great multi-colored scarf intertwined with black and ivory tassels.

Wear this look with old jeans, fun boots and a striped top. So fun!

I’m really digging this trend of layering of scarves. If you need me to help you choose scarves or show you other ways to wear them, Just Ask!

Here’s some more classic ways to wear scarves:

  1. Roll a small square silk or cotton scarf and tie it in the back so it looks like a choker necklace. I’ll throw this on a navy blue tee and jeans and off to a football game I go!
  2. Knot a long, narrow patterned silk scarf and tie it to one side. I would wear a scarf in this style when I’m going to a business meeting to add a little panache to my conservative outfit.
  3. Loop a colorful scarf around your bag. I always do this when I’m travelling so it can act as a blanket when those darn planes get so cold!
  4. Fold a scarf diagonally and use as a bandeau. Trés Saint Tropez!

Now, to my topic of tassels. This season tassels are in, in, in! Tassels on your bags, tassels on your bracelets, tassels on your boots, tassels slash fringe on your dresses, coats or skirts. Don’t be afraid to tassel it up!

And lastly, my stylish tip on fall coats – buy a coat in a cool color. Balance being warm with a little bit of prettiness. I believe a great statement coat solves so many problems, so if you want to leave your coat on, leave your coat on, a pretty one at that!
